Sunflowers & April Cornell Dishes

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Some things say summer....others scream SUMMER!! Sunflowers are screamers! I just love them. While we were vacationing we drove past fields and fields of sunflowers in western Nebraska.....BEAUTIFUL as far as the eye could see. If you've never seen a complete field of sunflowers, you have really missed out. Add the experience to your bucket list!

Sunflowers don't require fussy vases and fancy table linens. My choice of a vase is a 1/2 gallon canning jar. Just perfect to show off the flowers!

I've been holding on to some lovely April Cornell bowls that I picked up at Hobby Lobby on clearance a few months back until the *right* mood stuck me. The beauty of summer sunfowers was the inspiration I needed.

This covered butter dish came from Goodwill. I was thrilled when I found it!

Simple tablescape but may be my favorite one this year!

Sharing at the lovely Susan's Tablescape Thursday!

Simply lovely! What a great find! Are the red plates from Pottery Barn? They look like the ones I got at the outlet.

I really love the colors you have used in this table setting! So pretty. I so wish things were not made in China however...I don't trust them to make things without lead etc!

  1. Sunflowers are such happy flowers. I can't imagine seeing an entire field of them...it would be like Dorothy in the field of poppies! Your dishes are perfect with the sunflowers and what a great deal you got on them. Everything is really lovely.

  1. It may be simple, but it is smashing! Beautiful colors! The sunflowers are perfect in that jar! I like the rooster bowls with the red plates!

We traveled across Kansas once and saw the sunflower fields, it's everything you said!

You are kidding!! I love those bowls and I can't believe you got them for that! This is a great table, and I'm jealous of your sunflowers! I tried to grow some and got about 4, and they weren't the greatest. My mom has lots but they are in her garden, not mine!

Gail, what a lovely table. I have a bucket list and have just added a field of sunflowers to it!! One of my top things-to-do is a trip to USA - I'm an Aussie but would love to come to the States at some stage.

Sunflowers are so homey to me. They can take the simplest of things (like a canning jar) and make it special. I'm beginning to love the rooster motif in kitchens these days.

Oh, just curious was that I vintage radio/record player I saw in the background of one of your photos? I saw an old record player/radio from the 1930s at Goodwill once..It was $50..If I'd had the money at the time I might have bought it and then seen if I could rewire it somehow..

Anyway, I loved your table setting..very nice !!!! Have a great weekend. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
